Background:
Feste (stylized:
; pronounced "Fest-ay"), to say the least, has had a very long go at life. Multiple lives. Multiple timelines. Multiple lovers and occupations. Multiple faiths. To begin at the beginning, they are a Mephistopheles tiefling that was born near Baldur's Gate, and were raised lovingly and quite normally by their father and mother (Talus and Virdani Zaffre). Beyond the odd looks and the whispered rumours about their actual origins (their parents both very much had the blue pallor typical of a Mephistopheles tiefling), they had a very happy and safe childhood. Talus was always quick to encourage their late night forest walks, and Virdani bestowed them with sharp wisdom and many practical life skills. They learned to hunt at the tender age of eleven. Unfortunately, Talus and Virdani passed before Feste saw their eighteenth birthday, simply of old age.
Feste journeyed south to Amn, staying for several years when they took up with a fringe Zhentarim guild, running jobs and exploring a tenuous "romance" with the guild leader - a cruel half-elf named Caeusan ("say-uh-san"). He trafficked them, to put it bluntly, and Feste worked as a black widow of an assassin. They made Caeusan and the rest of the guild a lot of money in those days. Most people don't exactly believe them when they say that they used to be a Banite, but they also haven't told most people the tale. I'll spare you the gory details, but Caeusan was never shy about taking his pound of flesh from the young tiefling. Their "relationship" was no more than a power play, with Feste winning in the end - by shoving the very dagger that he'd threatened them with countless times up into his skull.
Before leaving Amn, Feste made a stop to a cleric of Ilmater, who took them in briefly to heal before sending them on their way. From that time to the time they disappeared from Faerun, they were a gentle follower of Ilmater, trading their Banite rogue leathers for more practical ranger boots, so to speak.
At the time of the Netherbrain Crisis and their subsequent kidnapping, Feste had been wandering the wilds around the city, looking for a bit of familiarity from their old life. Throughout their travels, they became rather close with a certain pale elf... Beyond that, the two were married, and nearly immediately thrust into another adventure together.
In Edhast, Feste simply... woke up one day with no memory of their past life or any of their old companions. They had no idea of the renown attached to their name, since it was realms away. They were simply a lonely ranger. They found a group of adventurers and did what they did best: persevered.
An evil lich had plunged the continent into peril with a grand design, as so many other masterminds have tried. This one had the end goal of the angel Alerion's destruction: a total razing of the land. In the early days of their travels, Feste happened upon a tiefling that seemed too large to be real, and who knew too much. His name was Mordren (stylized:
, pronounced "Moordren"). Over time, he would reveal to Feste that they were one of a soul split into three bodies, and that their presence in the land meant the demise of the lich. They had died several times previously trying to thwart the sorceress' goals, but an unseen force had kept bringing them back.
Upon finally achieving their goal: the defeat of the lich, Feste was rewarded with all of their memories (including those of their former love and life), and told to make a choice: who of the tri-soul would be sent away to stabilize the timeline? The tiefling was reluctant, but stalwart in their choice. They sent Roiben back to Faerun to right his wrongs. Their memories of their old life were taken again soon after, as the timeline stabilized.
Now, Feste tries very hard to live a quiet life, though they keep being pulled into the game. Their life revolves both around their husband, Mordren, and their adult son, Salem (a former conduit for the lich queen). A new enemy came to power, but was swiftly defeated, though not without regret. Mordren lost his glamour as a tiefling, coming into his own as a cambion, and the son of Nerzulak the devil. Feste approves the change, and treats their now ten foot tall husband with the utmost care as before. They doted on one another until Feste's own death, old and safe in their bed.
Quotes:
(to Mordren) "My love, if you keep doing that, you're going to break your oath again."
"I hope you can fuck better than you can swing a sword."
"You've brought people to my house again, Borisu? I'll stab you."
(To Mordren) "Are you sure you're a tiefling?"
(To Mordren, years later) "I knew you weren't really a tiefling, you little shit."
"Garg almost crushed the damn turnips."
(To Astarion, at their wedding) "Easy tiger. Someone will think you're trying to take me home with you."
(To Astarion) "Take me, and all I have to give. It's given freely."
(To Mordren) "Of course it's me."
